What is Dental Bonding?

Using resin that matches the shade, translucency and texture of your natural teeth, the cosmetic bonding process can close gaps between teeth, repair a broken or chipped tooth and correct discolourations.

During cosmetic bonding, a composite resin is applied to the teeth in a process similar to filling a cavity. This resin is hardened with a curing light and then shaped, contoured, and polished to provide a consistent texture and appearance.

For those worried about breaking or chipping teeth, this process can reinforce a tooth and make it stronger, helping to prevent damage.

The Bonding Procedure

Typically, the dental bonding process only talks about 30 to 60 minutes per tooth, and can be completed in one dental appointment.

To prepare your teeth for bonding, your dentist will apply an etching solution to the surface of your tooth. This provides a rough surface for the resin to adhere to.

Then, they will apply a composite resin that matches the colour of your teeth, harden it with curing light and mold it to the desired shape.

Caring for a Bonded Tooth

Fortunately, caring for a tooth with dental bonding on it is the same as caring for your natural teeth! Aftercare consists of maintaining good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice daily, and flossing once a day.

To prolong the life of your dental bonding, we also recommend wearing a night guard if you are prone to grinding your teeth at night. Grinding can lead to wearing down your bonding.
