Routine Hygiene Cleaning
Ideally, you should be attending regular oral exams at your dentist's office twice a year. This will give your dentist a chance to identify any potential oral health concerns and form a plan to treat them accordingly. Most dental conditions are easy to treat when they are in their early stages, so it's important to catch them as soon as possible.
During your regular exam, your dentist will inspect your teeth, gums, jaw, and bite. They may also recommend dental X-rays, an oral cancer screening or any other diagnostic procedures they feel is necessary.
Oral Cancer Screening
Since oral cancer can affect any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues, your dentist will take the time during your exam to check your face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, and gums for any signs of it.
Dental X-Rays
Digital X-rays are used to help detect oral health problems that may be lurking below the gum line before they become significant issues. These images can be viewed instantly and are kept for future reference.
Dental Hygiene Cleaning
During your exam, your dental hygienist will perform a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to get rid of any plaque and tartar buildup and help prevent and treat decay.
Our dental hygienist will first use a scaler to remove buildup, then they will use a polisher and a coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover stains, followed by a thorough flossing.
They may provide some tips on proper oral hygiene techniques and offer recommendations for maintaining good oral health at home.
Fluoride Treatment
If you are at high risk of tooth decay, your dentist may also recommend a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help to rebuild your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
