What is a Tooth Extraction?
A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. There are a variety of reasons why you may need to have a tooth removed. In cases where bone or gum tissue is deficient or diseased, we may need to remove and replace these tissues to restore your health, and enhance your smile.
When is an extraction necessary?
At Airdrie Dental Studio, our dentists only perform tooth extractions when absolutely necessary. This is usually when a treatment option would be ineffective, or keeping the tooth will compromise your oral health. Typically, a tooth needs to be removed as the result of injury, gum disease, or excessive decay.
If you have a damaged tooth that needs to be extracted, your dentist will discuss tooth replacement options with you, which may include dental bridges, crowns and dentures.
